If you are a football fan then you would know what I am talking about, I became an Arsenal in 2004, I tried as much as possible to develop much interests and passions for soccer but I never knew becoming a soccer fan or supporting a particular soccer club could be so ridiculous and sometimes awkwardly unbearable.
When I was still very young, due to the kind of environment I was brought up, I didn't have any passion for soccer. Out of all my friends both at home and in school, I was one of the poorest when it comes to sports and for the fact that I'm not really a soccer freak person I found it hard to know much about soccer. My parent were the type that don't really like soccer too because of the noise and controversy it caused within the street so it really affected my growing up being a soccer fan.
It was during my second year in the university that I started watching soccer every weekend, you know the naija settings na. The school environment wasn't really conducive and one of the thing one could do to while away sometime or catch some fun is watching soccer at the pub or viewing center. I was lucky then, the most favourite student's viewing center was right at my backyard so it was a great opportunity for me to watch any sports and sport news. I decided to join a top English Premier League club so I choose ArsenalFC, I love the club because of their style of playing and one of my reason of becoming an arsenal suppoter was because I like Thierry Henry and also a Nigerian Super Eagle player Kanu Nwakwo who was playing for the club.
One of the most intriguing moments for any soccer club supporter is when your club is winning most of the matches and when a particular key player is performing well for the club. When arsenal played 49 unbeaten games between 2003 and 2004 season I always thought no team could do it better than us, Thierry Henry (Igwe) will always be EPL best forward and Arsene Wenger will always be the best coach not until October 2004 at the home stadium of Manchester United, Old Traffordn where Arsenal were been defeated 2-0. I was sad, I had hoped the unbeaten run would reached 50, I had bought a new customized arsenal jersey to celebrate the 50th unbeaten run but to my disappointment it never happened. It was then I began to realized that ''what goes around comes around''.
My awkward moments started this time especially when Jose Morhino joined the Chelsea FC and won the league back to back. I nearly ran crazy when Arsenal lost to Barcelona FC at the Champions league final, it was awkwardly unbearable, I couldn't eat my dinner that night and the same thing happened when we lost to Birmingham City FC at the Carlin Cup final. I believed this could happen to anybody, it could happen to any soccer or football lovers that's why I couldn't desist myself from supporting the football club that I love so much. Because it was not easy for me to build this passions that I have today the same reason it wasn't easy for me to shy away the passions.
If you are supporting any club today, dont just support because they won all the time rather be significant of what you really like about the club or the players. Everything has its bad times and for any football club their bad times is when they need the supports and encouragements of their fans. I love everything about ArsenalFC and that's why i'm still a supporter today.
