Aliyu: ‘Wallahi, I got no N500m rent’

The petition sent to the Niger State House of Assembly two years ago alleging that the state government paid him N500m as two years’ rent for occupying his personal house was a fabrication supported by forged documents, Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said in Abuja yesterday. Although the Niger State Government had always denied the allegation, it was recently repeated in a paid newspaper advertorial by former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa.

Asked if he was ever paid rent for living in his own house, Aliyu said, “Wallahi tallahi no such money ever came to me and no one ever collected such money on my behalf. I know I don’t have to swear like that, but I must do so to show you how serious it is.” He said the state government invited security agents to investigate the allegation and they found that the documents sent to the Assembly to support the charge were all forgeries.
