Nigeria denies visas to 31,556 foreigners
Very often, the kind of news Nigerians hear is of one foreign country or another deporting Nigerians or denying them visas. It’s not every day one hears the reverse. But that’s exactly the report which was given by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Joachim Olumba.
Mr. Olumba said that between January and May 2012, Nigeria denied 31,556 foreigners entry into the country. He said however, that this was only because the federal government had ordered a closure on the nation’s borders following the spate of terrorist attacks that had plagued some Northern states.
On December 31, 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan in a public broadcast had announced a state of emergency in some local government areas in the North. It was during that broadcast that he ordered closure of the borders. Read More >>>

Nigerian breaks academic record at John Hopkins University
A 22 year old
Nigerian has emerged the best graduating student of John Hopkins University in
the US. Emmanuel Ohuabunwa from Arochukwu, Abia State obtained a Grade Point
Average of 3.98 out of a possible 4.0 to earn a degree in Neurosciences.
Emmanuel is the first black man to make this Grade in the university.
For his efforts, he has won a scholarship to Yale University to pursue a degree in medicine. He has also been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Society, a prestigious honour group that features membership of 17 US Presidents, 37 US Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Prize winners. (Punch)

Lauryn Hill facing jail time after failing to file tax returns for 3 years
Linda Ikeji - Lauryn Hill was this morning charged with failing to file tax returns for three years by a Federal Court in New Jersey. The 37 year old mother of six is accused of not filing the returns in 2005, 2006 and 2007 despite earning $1.6 million in that time.
Lauryn could face up to one year in prison for each count and $300,000 in fines, according to TMZ. She will appear in court on June 29.
Boko Haram 'We Killed DIG Saleh Ningi And Are Coming After More Top Govt Officials'

The Islamist group Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the killing of a former Nigerian deputy police chief in the northern city of Kano and vowed more of such attacks.
Also
the police on Tuesday killed a gunman and arrested two others who
attempted to kill a police inspector at Sauna Kawaji in Kano city.
“Yesterday God gave us victory and we succeeded in killing a forme
r DIG (deputy inspector general)… in Kano city,” the sect said in an email statement to reporters late Wednesday.
The group also vowed to carry out more of such killings of senior government officials.
“By
God’s grace very soon top government officials will have no peace as we

'We Thought Plane Crash Was Boko Haram Explosion in Lagos'-30 Iju Residents Perish

It was a black and bloody Sunday at the Iju area of Lagos State yesterday as a 152-passenger Dana Aircraft lost control and nosedived to the ground, exploding on residential buildings on Akande Street, off Poopola Street in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State. Also, about 30 residents of Iju community perished in the disaster. The plane itself crashed into a two story building and the crash caused a crater in a church which had 15 people in it.
Investigations reveal that the plane was formerly an Alaskan Airlines planne built in 1990 which a few weeks ago narrowly missed a crash in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom when it's landing gear had problems.
When reporters visited the crash site, confusion reigned as thousands trooped to the scene of the accident despite efforts by the police to curtail movement. However, no one was rescued alive from the fire rather charred bodies of the dead were brought out. Read More >>>
